Monitoring Inspection 4: 4th June 2015 - Ofsted confirms the Academy is still on track to see the removal of Special Measures.

Monitoring Inspection 3: 17th and 18th March 2015. - Ofsted confirms the Academy is still on track to see the removal of Special Measures.

This time two inspectors spent a couple of days observing teaching, interviewing groups of staff, students and governors and looking through data and paperwork. This was a really helpful process identifying the areas that continue to improve and the areas that now need to be further developed. Many of these suggestions have already been implemented and will be evident on the website. Once again our students really impressed the inspectors with their behaviour and attitudes. They continue to be our greatest asset.

Monitoring Inspection 2: 2nd and 3rd December 2014 -Ofsted recognises improvement at Crawshaw Academy

On the 2nd and 3rd December a team of Ofsted inspectors visited Crawshaw Academy for its first monitoring inspection since becoming a member of the Interserve Academies Trust in September 2014.  There are only two possible headline outcomes from such a visit; either the school is making “reasonable progress towards the removal of special measures” or it is not. I am delighted to announce that Ofsted’s view is that we are making the progress required. This is a testament to the hard work and determination of our staff, a fantastic attitude from our students and the support of our parents and our sponsors.

Ofsted recognised that “the quality of teaching in the academy is improving in all key stages” and that “teaching is better matched to the needs of different groups of students providing them with a more appropriate degree of challenge…..Students books show that marking is more regular and that teachers are increasingly providing feedback that enables them to know how to improve”. Improvements were also identified with regards to behaviour and safety. The procedures put in place to improve attendance, punctuality and the management of behaviour are all having a significant impact. Perhaps the most powerful comment came from a year 11 student who told an inspector, “it feels like they (staff) are there for us”.

There is still much to do and we are continuing to improve all areas of the school but you can feel a real pride developing amongst students and staff in the Academy. Most recently and visibly is in their new uniform and blazers.

Ofsted Inspection January 2014

Ofsted inspected our school in January 2014. The inspection, using the new, very challenging framework came, as you will understand, at a very difficult time for the school. We were very disappointed to be placed in “Special Measures” by the Ofsted Team but feel confident that, with the support that we have already enlisted, we will improve rapidly.
