ABOUT US ………… We are a newly established Parent Teacher Association with the common aim of enhancing our children’s education and enriching their time at Crawshaw Academy. When you look back on your own high school years what memories stand out the most? Is it reading Shakespeare, learning about the Pyramids of Egypt or trying to make sense of algebra on a wet Wednesday afternoon?? …….The answer is: probably not!! The fondest memories often involve extra curriculum activities and socialising with friends; sporting triumphs, school productions, residential trips, playing in the band or just hanging out with friends at break times.

SOCA will be predominantly fundraising to pay for the ‘extras’ that core funding does not cover. In turn this will hopefully make our children’s time at school more enjoyable and memorable. These ‘extras’ will include funds towards a new minibus, improving social gathering areas and helping towards school trips.

Crawshaw Weather Lottery

http://www.theweatherlottery.com/charitiesHomepagePlay.php?client=CSHAW Crawshaw Lottery will cost you £1 a play but you are in with a chance to win £25,000 and the school is guaranteed 37p in every £1.

Easy Fundraising

http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/crawshawacad/?t=PTA-UK-li&v=a&u=0DRL6I You shop online and the retailer makes a donation to SOCA. It does not cost you anything above the normal purchase price. Try it!! Retailers include: Amazon, eBay, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, John Lewis, National Express, Booking.com, Thomas Cook. . . . . over 3000 retailers are waiting to make a donation.

SOCA, in partnership with staff and students, will also be promoting Crawshaw Academy in the local community. We want to demonstrate how proud we are of the talented pupils and help the school build positive connections within the local area.

We can all sometimes feel a bit removed from our children’s lives at high school. SOCA aims to bridge that gap. We welcome volunteers, social members and new committee members to become involved on any level. All ideas, help, enthusiasm and humour will be gratefully accepted!

We are a member of PTA UK and as such receive their support and guidance. This membership also provides insurance cover and fund raising ideas.

Future events we hope to organise include; film nights, coffee mornings, ladies evenings and participation in local events such as the Pudsey Carnival …….. But we are open to any other suggestions. Please become involved and be part of the wider Crawshaw community – it would be lovely to see some new faces at the next committee meeting in school on Thursday 7th September 2017 at 7pm. If you would like any further information please contact the SOCA team: soca@crawshawacademy.org.uk or via Suzanne Kirkby: communications@crawshawacademy.org.uk

Many thanks from the SOCA team
