International Ambassadors Visit India

This Easter break  will see a group of 4 International Student Ambassadors representing Crawshaw on a visit to our partner school in the foothills of the Himalayas and to the nearby  Tong Len Charity that Crawshaw has supported for the last 6 years. The Ambassadors, acompanied by members of staff, will be travelling to Kangra and Dharamsala in the Himalyan State of Himachal Pradesh to spend 5 days at G.A.V. Public School.  They will spend time working with the staff and students there, learning about Indian culture and education.  They will also visit children supported by the Tong Len charity and the community that they come from.  This will give them the opportunity to learn about the lives of those children, see how the charity works and to gain a unique insight into how the many thousands of pounds raised by Crawshaw have been put to good use.

The Ambassadors (from left to right) Ruby Tait - year 11, Mark Hopper - year 13, Sophie O'Connell - year 12 and Lyndarn Harrison - year 13, were put through a rigorous selection process to go on the trip, which is the first of its kind.  Crawshaw has spent several years developing links with the G.A.V. Public School and the Tong Len Charity, through various staff exchanges and fund raising exercises.  The Ambassadors have been busily making preparations for the trip including a final fund raising effort  for the Tong Len Charity, which included, amongst other things, the recent non-uniform day and seeking donations from other areas of the community such as the local Masons' Lodge of Hope and has raised approximately £1800.  The partnership visit has been funded by the Department for International Development who have also funded a return visit by staff and students from G.A.V. Public School to take place during the summer term.

Further information about the trip, along with photographs will follow over the coming weeks.  If you would like to discuss the school's international links, or wish to contribute to our fund raising efforts, please contact Steve Smyth, International Coordinator via the school switchboard.
