The Leeds Book Award winning authors were announced at a fantastic ceremony at the Carriageworks Theatre on a very sunny 24th May.

The Crawshaw Leeds Book Awards reading group attended the ceremony and were picked to look after Steve Voake, author of Dark Woods, for the afternoon.  They spent time with the author talking about where ideas come from and how to start a career in writing, before escorting him to the stage for the awards ceremony. The students range from year 7 to year 10 and have spent the last few months reading and reviewing the shortlisted books in the 11-14 categories.

The next meeting of the Crawshaw Reading Group will take place on Monday, 18th June at 7pm in the LRC. This is a new group that we have introduced for parents/carers and the wider community to have an opportunity to get together and read some fantastic books. We are currently reading Tiny Sunbirds Far Away by Christie Watson which last year won the 2011 Costa Award for best first novel. So, if you fancy a couple of hours away from the kids and Coronation Street, why not have a go at reading this fabulous book and come along on the 18th to review and talk about the book in an informal setting. Refreshments will be provided. For further information contact Mrs Coop- LRC Co-ordinator on coopc02@leedslearning.net or 0113 336 8540 ext 61500
