Science & Technology Visit for Gifted & Talented

Alix, Indee, Rebecca, Ruth & Dominic (Year 9) report about the latest opportunity for Gifted & Talented students.

On the 24th of June, twelve students from year 8 and 9 went to the Thomas Danby campus, in Leeds, to take part in a Science and Technology day. We were competing with other schools from the area in smaller challenges to win the overall prize.

There were four activities to take part in: a robot building challenge (where we had to build and program a Lego robot) , a bridge building challenge (where we had to build a bridge from paper) , the E-fit challenge (where we had to reconstruct a criminals face on the computer) and the car building challenge (where we built a model car using lots of parts and raced them) .

Many of our students won individual challenges like the car racing and robot building. They received certificates and congratulating plaques.

Mr Doughty, the Science Teacher who accompanied the group on the visit said: "It is really encouraging to see the students performing so well in these challenges outside of their normal school environment and against students from other schools.  These kind of activities takes them out of their comfort zone and they were a credit to the school throughout."
