Year 9 Make the Grade at Careers Event

On Wednesday 7th November the school opened its doors to a large group of businesses and organisations for a careers day aimed at Year 9 students.  With GCSE options looming, the event was geared towards supporting students in making choices for their future.  As one aspect of the programme of careers related initiatives provided through Leeds Ahead's 'Make the Grade' programme, this event is central to our commitment to preparing students for life after school.

The businesses present included Asda, Baker Tilly, Leeds United Foundation, Sharp Consultancy, Direct Line, Shepherd Construction, Feature Media, Shepherd Engineering, Gaunts, The AA, The Police, Zenith and Pudsey Legal.

The day was broken into two halves, with half the year group attending in the morning and the other in the afternoon.  In the first hour of the session, the businesses each gave a short presentation about what they do, the types of jobs and opportunities they can offer, what it is like to work there and the kind of experience / qualifications would stand potential employees in good stead. Following a short break to turn the room around, the students returned to a 'careers faye' style event where they were given an opportunity to speak to each of the exhibitors in more detail.

The students were a credit to the school and engaged with the event in a really positive way.  The organisors and exhibitors commented about how impressed they were with the group.  .
