At Crawshaw Academy, we are committed to preparing every student for life beyond school. Our careers programme supports students from Year 7 to Year 11 to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed decisions about their future, whether that is further education, apprenticeships, employment or training.

Careers education is delivered through the curriculum, dedicated careers activities, employer engagement, work experience and impartial careers guidance. Our programme is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks and the statutory guidance for careers education.

Our progressive careers programme supports students throughout Years 7 to 11 and provides opportunities to:

Careers Across the Curriculum

Preparing students for life beyond school is a whole-school responsibility. Careers education is embedded throughout the curriculum, helping students understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in school relate to future education, employment and training.

The table below provides examples of how careers learning is embedded across different curriculum areas.

Mathematics	Uses industry-based examples and problem-solving activities to demonstrate how mathematics is applied in everyday life and professional settings.
Science	Connects practical investigations and scientific enquiry to real-world challenges, innovations and future career pathways.
Geography	Explores environmental, social and global issues through fieldwork, investigations and discussions about future opportunities.
History	Develops research, source analysis and critical thinking through historical enquiry and real-world applications.
Religious Studies	Encourages ethical reasoning, cultural awareness and critical thinking through contemporary issues and diverse perspectives.
Modern Foreign Languages	Develops communication, cultural awareness and global citizenship through authentic language use and international contexts.
Design Technology & Art	Provides practical, creative and design-based projects supported by industry links and real-world applications.
Food & Nutrition	Combines practical cooking, nutrition and food science with an understanding of food production and industry practice.
Computing & Business	Develops digital, enterprise and employability skills through practical projects, career planning and portfolio building.
Media Studies	Uses practical media production alongside industry examples to develop creative, technical and analytical skills.
Physical Education	Promotes leadership, teamwork, health and wellbeing through practical activities and wider learning experiences.
Health & Social Care	Develops communication, empathy and ethical understanding through real-life scenarios and case studies.
Curriculum for Life	Supports career planning, employability, financial education, decision-making and preparation for future pathways.
Music & Drama	Encourages creativity, collaboration, confidence and performance through practical experiences and technical production.

The Progress Careers Microsite provides students, parents and carers with information about careers education at Crawshaw Academy, including careers events, work experience, post-16 pathways, labour market information and useful guidance to support future decision-making.

Unifrog

Unifrog is our online careers platform, giving students access to impartial information about careers, apprenticeships, colleges, sixth forms, universities and employment opportunities. Students can research different pathways, compare options, record careers activities and build a personalised profile to help them plan their future.

Students use Unifrog throughout their careers programme in school and can also access the platform at home to continue exploring their options.

Start Programme

All Crawshaw students have access to the Start Programme. This is an online Careers platform which is so useful. Students access this in Enterprise lessons and we'd love to see them using it at home with their parents as well.

Students will need their Start account to login - for Year 9, 10 and 11, it is your old e-mail address (firstname.surname@stu.crawshawacademy.org.uk) and the password is Start123. For Years 7,8 and 12 it is your new e-mail address (CAxxxxxx@stu.ca.rklt.co.uk) and the password is Start123.
