Learning at Crawshaw Academy

Drama

Curriculum Intent

Drama has an important role to play in education; building the confidence and self-esteem of young people, challenging them to think about social, economic and political matters in modern society. The Drama department provides students the opportunity to develop their oracy, listening, inter-personal and communication skills through regular rehearsal work, performances and practical work.

The aim of the Drama curriculum is to enable all learners to develop practical understanding of Drama and Theatre- as a practitioner, performer, designer and audience member. The curriculum builds confidence through practical skills and techniques which develop oral communication and group collaboration. As all students move through KS3 skills are further advanced and embedded.

Enrichment

Our Drama club runs every week from September to December, open to all students, leading to performances in the annual Christmas concert. There are also opportunities to get involved behind the scenes in tech, makeup and set design clubs. In addition, the Performance faculty also regularly stages a full-scale academy play and musical.

Previous productions have included High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast, Macbeth, The Addams Family, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Matilda, Romeo and Juliet & Little Shop of Horrors.
