Learning at Crawshaw Academy
In Years 7-9, homework is built around our Knowledge Organisers and Study Booklets.
Knowledge Organisers contain the essential knowledge, vocabulary and concepts that students need to learn and remember. Study Booklets provide retrieval, recall and comprehension activities that are directly linked to this knowledge and are used by many subjects as a structured approach to homework.
Homework activities may include retrieval practice, knowledge quizzes, vocabulary learning, reading, research and extended responses. These tasks help students revisit important knowledge regularly and strengthen long-term retention.
Some departments also continue to use established subject-specific platforms such as Sparx (Maths), Educake (Science), Quizlet (MFL), MiMove (PE and Reading) and Focus on Sound (Music). Where this is the case, Knowledge Organisers remain an important supporting resource.
As students move into Key Stage 4, homework becomes increasingly focused on preparation for GCSE examinations.
Homework may include revision activities, exam-style questions, coursework development, independent reading, research and subject-specific online learning. Many departments also use platforms such as Sparx Maths, Seneca, GCSEPod, Quizlet and Microsoft Teams.
As a guide, most subjects will set homework equivalent to approximately 30-60 minutes per week. Expectations vary between subjects and may increase during assessment periods, mock examinations and GCSE preparation. Students are also encouraged to undertake regular independent revision alongside their set homework.
All homework is set through ClassCharts, allowing students and parents/carers to view tasks, deadlines and supporting resources.
Homework Club runs every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00-4:00pm in STRIVE 7 and 8. Students can use this time to complete homework, access online learning platforms or work in a quiet study environment. Places can be booked through Arbor.
