Equality and Diversity
Red Kite Learning Trust is committed to advancing equality of opportunity, fostering good relations as well as eliminating discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
We oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination, whether because of age, ethnicity, disability, gender, religion and belief, and sexual identity or any other condition or requirement which places a person at disadvantage and cannot be justified. The impact of all policies, practices and day-to-day activities are considered to ensure that no member of the community is discriminated against or put at a disadvantage.
Crawshaw Academy is proud to be the first secondary school to achieve the Stage 1 commitment certificate for the RED Award. The assessors were pleased with the breadth of our action plan and we look forward to moving through this award over the next year. You can find out more about the award here Red Kite Learning Trust - RED Award (rklt.co.uk) By using this Award as a framework, we are learning and developing as a community; ensuring that our school community is inclusive of all our students and staff.
The Award Provides
- a framework within which schools can evaluate their current provision in terms of equality, diversity, respect for individuals and community cohesion;
- a route map to help schools to build on what they already do well, to plan actions to strengthen their provision and to embed a cohesive, inclusive, respectful ethos across the entire school;
- a vehicle for schools to celebrate the richness and diversity of the whole school community, as well as the school’s collective achievements in this area of its provision.
The Red Kite Alliance RED Award also supports schools to meet their statutory duties, including those which fall under The Equality Act 2010.
The award is exclusive to Red Kite Alliance schools.

Equality Objectives
In accordance with the Equality Act (2010), we have published a series of Equality Objectives to build upon our achievements. Our current Equality Objectives (2022-2026) include the following key objectives:
-
To ensure that all our students have equal access to an appropriately challenging curriculum, which will lead to social mobility and employability.
-
To further develop our school community's knowledge of all protected characteristics through engaging and relevant training and resources.
-
To work with students to overcome barriers to learning from socio-economic deprivation and mental health issues, allowing all students to thrive within a culture of success.
-
To have clear processes for reporting, recording and analysing participation, sanctions and rewards. This will support in the identification of issues surrounding equality and diversity, allowing for early intervention.

Modern Slavery Statement
At Crawshaw Academy, we are fully committed to preventing all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and exploitation. We recognise the importance of safeguarding human rights within our school, community, and any organisations with whom we work. Our school strives to create a safe, ethical, and inclusive environment, and we work to ensure that these values are upheld in all our operations and relationships.
Our Commitment
-
Awareness and Training: We ensure that all staff members, students, and parents are aware of the signs of modern slavery and exploitation. Through training and workshops, we aim to build a school culture that values human rights and equips our community to recognize and address any concerns.
-
Policy and Practice: Our safeguarding policies strictly prohibit any practices that might contribute to modern slavery. We have clear procedures for reporting and addressing concerns about any suspected exploitation or abuse. We hold all staff, contractors, and suppliers to these same high standards.
-
Due Diligence: We engage in due diligence processes to assess potential risks in our supply chains, particularly in areas that may be vulnerable to labor exploitation. We work with ethical suppliers and require all partners to uphold fair labor practices and comply with anti-slavery legislation.
-
Continuous Improvement: We regularly review and strengthen our policies, training, and partnerships to ensure that our approach to combating modern slavery remains effective and up-to-date with current best practices.
At Crawshaw Academy, we believe that every individual deserves respect, dignity, and freedom from exploitation. By working together, we can help ensure our school and community remain free from modern slavery and uphold the highest standards of human rights.
