For Students

Y8 into 9 Applied Learning Options

An underpinning principle of the curriculum at Crawshaw is that it will develop confident, self-motivated and determined young people with the knowledge, skills and qualities needed for successful lives. Experiencing success and developing independent learning skills and resilience, to equip our students for further/higher education and employment, is a key element of our STRIVE philosophy.

We run a 3 Year Key Stage 3 curriculum which follows the National Curriculum. Students in Year 9 opt to study one subject from the applied option block. These courses are aligned with our whole school curriculum intent in supporting students to become work ready, providing students an opportunity to experience ‘new’ subjects such as Business, Media and Photography. This approach to Key Stage 3 means that we can teach a broad curriculum for as long as possible and allow students to specialise and deepen knowledge of a subject that interests them and prepares them for the world of work.

Y8 into 9 Applied Learning Options

  • To help you make your decisions, we have produced an information booklet, video and subject information resources. See below for these resources.
  • During lessons, option subject teachers will talk through the expectations and challenges that you can expect with the courses on offer.
  • Should you have any further questions, feel free to contact your teachers directly for further advice, or email Mrs Dwight, KS3 Phase Leader.

Information for Parents and Carers

  • To complete your child’s option choices for this year's process, please do this through the MS Form-the link has been emailed.  This enables school to run the options process more efficiently and with less paperwork.  This also means that you can make changes to your child’s options up until the closing date, without having to contact school.
  • This online form will be opened Friday 14th June 2024, closing on Monday 24th June 2024.

  • Please note that a parent/carer or trusted adult must support students to complete the options process and form.
