PE Pathway

Key Stage 3 Core PE

KS3 Physical Education (core)
Students in years 7, 8 and 9 at Crawshaw receive their full entitlement of 2 hours of Physical Education teaching per week. Our focus in year 7 is to develop ‘Confident Movers’. The programme of activities is very simple and allows students to explore fundamental movement skills in context through a range of different activities and sports.

In year 8 our focus is to develop ‘Versatile Performers’ establishing skills and techniques for success in sport, physical activity and in life.

In year 9 our focus is ‘Healthy Leaders’ developing competences to motivate and instruct others to move. Students are also given opportunities to develop life skills through undertaking leadership and first aid training.

Key Stage 4 Core PE

KS4 Physical Education (core)

Students in year 10 and year 11 receive 3 hours of Physical Education per fortnight (equivalent 1 ½ hours per week).

Our aim in Year 10 is for students to be ‘Independently Active’ embedding active healthy living routines into their lives. In Year 11 ‘Active Role Models’ mastering concepts to flourish in life. As students’ progress through school a wider number of activities are introduced. This not only ensures that students have a good understanding of an activity before they move on to the next one but also keeps students interested and motivated as new activities are introduced each year.

miMove App @Crawshaw

We want physical activity to make your life better and to help you we have opened a miMove account for each of you.

MIMOVE

The PE Dept have worked towards making a purposeful and sustainable shift in culture at Crawshaw Academy moving forwards, embracing new 21st century technologies.

Our aim is for each of our students to develop a ‘Physical Activity Habit’ throughout their time at Crawshaw and beyond, leading to participation in lifelong Physical activity.

The miMove app established in 2019, can be installed on a phone or tablet device on Google Play Store and Apple AppStore or via the new web based version on any online device including PCs and laptops. Your child/you can then start using the app to record all the activity your child does. It is very straightforward and requires just 4 taps on the device to log the activity.
This innovative platform is now being used across the world and is continuing to gain real momentum, underpinned by academic research and led by leading Physical Education practitioners who are also involved as part of the Government PE Taskforce to combat National inactivity. Crawshaw Academy have been championing miMove since March 2020. We were the first school in Yorkshire to use the platform with great success and are just one of hundreds of schools using the platform across the globe.

MiMove data allows us to communicate, celebrate and support our students in a number of ways:

  • It allows us to see the number of students who are physically active by Year and Class breakdown, as well as each individual pupil’s profile.
  • Activity locations where students undertake sport and exercise
  • Importantly student ‘Emotional responses’, supporting Healthy Active lifestyles and Emotional wellbeing.
All this, while also giving us the tools to send notifications to the student’s via the platform to encourage each and everyone one of them along the way on their journey.

Is it safe?
Your child’s data will be treated sensitively and will remain secure. Only your child, you and the authorised staff at school will have access to each individual’s data.

SG-L1-3-gold-2023-24

We are delighted to announce that we CRAWSHAW ACADEMY have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school's engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible. We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven't previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. A special thanks to: Crawshaw PE Department for their hard work and tireless efforts in promoting our PE offer. Crawshaw teachers and staff who give time outside of their subject area to provide opportunities for pupils as part of our School Sport programme. Thanks also to West Leeds Well School Partnership, as well as our community partners. Finally, to all students who have participated in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity at Crawshaw Academy over the last year and parents/guardians who have actively encouraged and supported their child to do so.
