Learning at Crawshaw Academy
At Crawshaw Academy, we are determined to create an aspirational educational community, with Respect, Integrity and Determination at the heart of everything we do.
We are committed to nurturing a culture where respect is paramount – respect for ourselves, for others and for the diverse world we live in. This ethos underpins every aspect of academy life, encouraging students to engage positively with one another, embrace challenge and contribute meaningfully to their community. In our inclusive environment, every student's background, talents and aspirations are recognised, supported and celebrated.
The promotion of Fundamental British Values is central to this vision. These values are embedded throughout our curriculum, pastoral programme and wider academy life, helping students become confident, responsible and respectful citizens who are well prepared for life in modern Britain.
Democracy means ensuring everyone's voice can be heard and valued. Students learn the importance of participation, representation and respectful debate, understanding how individuals can positively influence decisions within their communities.
Students develop an understanding of why laws, rules and expectations are essential in creating a safe, fair and respectful society. They learn about rights, responsibilities and the importance of accountability.
Mutual respect underpins life at Crawshaw Academy. Students are encouraged to value the opinions, beliefs and experiences of others, building positive relationships within an inclusive and supportive community.
Students are encouraged to make informed choices, develop independence and take responsibility for their actions. We promote confidence, resilience and freedom of expression while recognising the rights and freedoms of others.
We celebrate the diversity of modern Britain by encouraging students to appreciate different cultures, faiths and beliefs. Through learning and shared experiences, students develop empathy, understanding and respect for others.
Fundamental British Values are embedded throughout our curriculum rather than taught as a standalone subject. Students encounter these principles every day through a wide range of subjects and learning experiences. Some examples include:

Student voice plays an important role in academy life, giving students meaningful opportunities to influence decisions and contribute to the ongoing development of the school.
Our Student Forum is made up of elected representatives from every form group who meet regularly to discuss ideas, raise issues and provide feedback on behalf of their peers. Agendas are shared in advance, allowing representatives to gather views from their form before each meeting and communicate outcomes afterwards.
Students also have the opportunity to apply for the Student Leadership Team. Following staff nominations, shortlisted students campaign for the roles of Head Student, Deputy Head Student and Prefect before taking part in a whole-school election. Every member of staff and every student has the opportunity to vote, providing an authentic experience of democracy in action while developing leadership, responsibility and active citizenship.
